This is not about the law of attraction or some other philosophy. It’s a real anecdote to success in life or business or both. And it’s an anecdote that no one may ever tell you. Until today.
But first, let me ask you a few questions.
- Do you often find yourself not able to make decisions?
- Do you find it easier to come up with ideas rather than actually doing them?
- Do you give up when something does not work out right away?
If you can answer yes to any of the above questions (or all of them) then this article is for you.
Here is what you lack and what you can do about it.
Confidence.
That’s right. This is the big secret. Not very exciting? Well, how many times have you heard that you need to not give up? How many times have you heard that you need to be passionate about something to succeed? And how many times have you tried to get started but were just told to “make a plan” and execute it?
This is great advice, but it never really gets at the core of what could be wrong. Confidence is what you need in order to succeed in life and business. Then you can focus on plans, passions, and moving forward. They work together.
So what is confidence? Well, according to Wikipedia, confidence is:
A state of being certain either that a hypothesis or prediction is correct or that a chosen course of action is the best or most effective
Now don’t mistake this with a big ego or being arrogant. That’s not confidence; actually it’s the lack of it.
Confidence will help you succeed in both life and business because it gives you those leadership qualities that you admire so much in those that inspire you. Have you ever been told that leaders are born that way? Well, they might be but you are a leader as well – it’s just the confidence they have and you can have it as well.
When you have confidence, things in your life and business begin to change. You are able to make (and believe in) your decisions no matter what. You are able to execute on your ideas and you don’t give up because you believe in your decision.
In business, having confidence is often confused with having an ego or arrogance. But you can be very confident and not arrogant. Having confidence in business allows others to see you as having authority and trust. People will naturally look to you as a leader because they feel that you are a good role model.
So if all this sounds like something you would want in your own life or in your business life, then how does one gain confidence?
Anyone can become confident. For some it comes naturally, for others they have to work at it a bit. But the reward far outweighs the efforts put into it.
Here are five things you can begin doing to help gain your own confidence.
- Begin to like yourself. Get out a piece of paper and make a list of all your positive traits and strengths (yes, you have many). Take this list and post it up somewhere. Write it up on your computer and email it to yourself. Carry it with you. Above all make sure it is viewable at multiple times during the day. While this might seem like it won’t do anything, it will have more of an impact that you realize.
- Motivate yourself. Whether this is for something you are doing for your business or at home, tell yourself you can do it. And believe in that. Make a list of the things you did well that day. Tell yourself you can do them again. If you motivate yourself, soon you will find that it comes naturally to believe you can do it.
- Attend Seminars. If you see any seminars close by where there are professional speakers talking about confidence, then make sure to attend. You can pick up a lot from watching and listening to these. Write down what you found important then tell someone else about it. That helps you remember it and practice it.
- Overcome fears. This one can be tough but once you conquer it, you will feel far more confident. If you have fears that you won’t succeed or have a success or if you fear your idea will not work, just remind yourself that if you do not find out then you will not know. And if you have failed before at it, then remind yourself that it takes a few tries sometimes to get it right. Also realize that every success is backed by many failures. Everyone fails and it’s their confidence that pushes them to their final success.
- Accept failures. Speaking of failing, remember that no matter what you cannot go back and reverse what was done. Accept it and move on. Confident people shrug off a failure and move on to the next thing. Realize that when you see successful people, what you don’t see are their failures.
Practice these five tips each day. And if you look back in a month you might see a different person. A more confident person. A person that has had some new successes in their life and their business.
Now that is a secret that not many people will tell you. It starts with having confidence and then builds from there. But now you know where it starts.
Have you experienced a positive transformation in your life due to gaining confidence?
