Top Life Hack Blogs Status

top-blogHeading into a new year, we will see if bloggers have the stamina to continue trying to grow their blogs through providing great content that engages their audience. As part of that, I am going to start tracking the top twenty-five blogs in my niche and letting you all know how good or bad they are doing.

This first update uses information from sometime the last week of December compared to today, December 4th, 2010. [Read more...]

Life Hack Blogs Year in Review

One of my favourite things about the end of the year is the lengthy roundups that people create of the top blog posts over the course of the year. Some lists are short, only having a few links to their most prized articles, while others are laundry lists of nearly every post each month. Either way, these lists can be great tools to find some of the best life hack and productivity tips.

Here are some lists from a few life hack blogs:

Best of Awake@TheWheel 2009
Get Rich Slowly’s Greatest Hits (2009 Edition)
Best of Art of Manliness 2009
The 90 Best Lifehacks of 2009: The Year in Review
The Essential Zen Habits of 2009
Mental_floss: Our Top 5 Stories of 2009

If you are wondering where the LifeSnips year in review is, I’ll remind you that we’ve only been around for four months now, but here are some stats from our first quarter in existence and, hopefully, some insight on what you can expect form LifeSnips in 2010.

Thanks to the great writing staff here, we’ve had 170,000 unique visitors, and 211,000 page views. Over fifty people have found us from searching for our name in search engines. We’ve had as many as 217 RSS subscribers following our feed, and we’ve published over 50 posts. LifeSnips is one of the only blogs in the Life Hack niche to track the stats and rankings of the other blogs in its own niche, a helpful, value-added script that gets a fair bit of traffic, and hopefully gives those other sites some new readers as well.

I am looking forward to an amazing 2010, and I hope you’ll all stick around. If you have come across a productivity, lifestyle tips, life hack blog with its own 2009 roundup, please let us know in the comments below.

Documentary Worth Watching: Marathon Challenge

Have you ever felt like you could never run a marathon because it was too hard, long or just impossible due to some “bad genes” passed on from your parents? Well, Nova looks at turning some reasonably fit, regular people into Boston Marathon runners in under a year.

This documentary might inspire you to work towards your own fitness goal, or remind you to stay on track with your New Years resolutions. I hope you’ll all find it interesting. [Read more...]

Top Life Hack Blogs List

So, I’ve finally finished getting the updated Top Life Hack Blogs list together for you all. This new version takes into account Technorati authority, Compete scores, as well as Google PageRank and Alexa rankings. Combined, I think these give a good picture of the order of the blogs in this niche, and will be a helpful resource for those looking to find such information.

For myself, and the bloggers on the Life Snips staff, we will use this list to find great articles on top tier blogs, as well as a measuring stick for our own continued improvements.

If you’d like to get added to the list, please contact me, either through comments on this post, or via the contact page, and I’ll look into adding you. I probably won’t let the list go longer than one hundred entries, as it is very rare for anyone to need more than one hundred of the best blogs in any niche, for any non-spam purpose.

That doesn’t mean I won’t accept more than one hundred people to submit their blogs though, as some of you will hopefully rise up through the ranks as well.

I hope you’ll all check out the Top Life Hacks Blog list, and let me know what you think of it.

Reactions to Your Writing

Recently, I wrote a rather lengthy post on my personal/business blog, BrandingDavid.com, where I talked about my thoughts on the current state of the WordPress project. The post got a bit of attention on both sides of the fence regarding what I wrote, and was linked to by a few people. It was exciting and interesting and I hope to see more people voicing their opinions, and remaining calm to the reactions, whatever they may be. [Read more...]

Best Life Hack Posts Roundup

I haven’t been doing my weekly worth reading roundups consistently yet, and I hope to solve that going forward, so to start us off on the right foot, here are some posts that I found amazing!

Sidenote: I was looking at some blogs today on the Top Life Hack Blogs list that I maintain (and will be updating with new features soon!) and one of the most popular blogs, Life Hacker didn’t seem to have many posts written directly by them. Most were details about posts found elsewhere. It was interesting to me, but made my selections for best life hack posts a little harder to organize.

Guy Vs. Guy: Making a Living in the New Economy – Can you keep up with the big companies? Are your skills worth money or have they been devalued due to worldwide competition? Two bloggers debate the issue.

How to Hold Your Breath Like David Blaine, World Record Holder (and Now, Me) – Tim Ferris is a life hack guru and talks about how you can learn to hold your breath longer. Might not seem like much of a life hack, but it is definitely worth a read if you are a fan of swimming.

The Simple, Ridiculously Useful Guide to Earning a Living from Your Passion – I’ve been so fortunate to live a life where I got to write online for four years as my full time job, and Zen Habits has a great guide on how you too can live by changing your passion into a career.

“So, What Do You Want for Christmas?” – I’ve been getting this question nearly every week from my wife, as the holidays close in, and I haven’t been able to figure out what I want. Hopefully this guide from The Simple Dollar will rectify that situation and help all of you.

What It Really Costs to Own a Home – When I bought a house two years ago, who knew that the market was going to be shaken up so horribly. Oddly enough though, the extra costs related to owning a home have only gone up, despite the value of the house going down. Go figure… Check out this great post on Wise Bread regarding the true costs associated with owning a house.

The High Seas Showed Me How Pitifully Unproductive I Am – Over on Life Dev, Glen is back from his honeymoon, and learned that getting away from it all can also mean that you can get a lot done.

Modern Life Sucks: 4 Ways The Status Quo Is Wrong – Not everything is happy and bubbly in making your life better, and a post on Organize IT has a great breakdown on how our lives don’t work.

Check back next week for more great stories from blogs on the Life Hack Blogs top list.
