Hi Steven, this is interesting and fun. I like that you didn't do it hard and fast, but presented it with some flexibility. The one where the guy is in the chair leaned back with hands behind his head and leg on his knee is one I've seen men do more than woman. Interestingly I know three men who posed in this way and later told me that they were nervous as all get out and that it was only an attempt to "appear" confident. I was SO touched by their honesty. It also touched me because they confirmed what I had felt in my gut, which was that they were secretly nervous.

After that I noticed that more men did this around people they didn't know and were in fact actually nervous and trying to act "normal". Something I'm sure we've all done at some point. LOL! :) But then I've also seen men do this around people that they DID know and it was a very real state of relaxation and confidence and ease with these friends they knew.

This is such a fascinating topic and one that would be fun to discuss in a mixed group of men and woman. :)) Thank you! R

A great tv show on these days that covers body language realy in depth is: http://www.fox.com/lietome/ "Lie to Me". Ever since I have started to watch this series, people get realy obvious where they are coming from. Of course a lot of it is hollywood spoon fed stuff, but taken with a grain of salt, there is very true stuff u can use.

Great Article Steve, realizing that most of our communication is non-verbal helps raise our awareness of the body language messages we are are sending. The pictures you used were excellent for illustrating your point.

Great Article! Maybe you could do a follow up on the topic on:

"how to be more encouraging to a team dynamic with conversation style",

-o -

"the negative side effects within communication of always having to be right".
